New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance Financial Literacy Awareness Program

Burlington, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Education, partnered with the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education and its member organizations to deliver a financial education outreach program to high school students. NJCFE member organization, CreditWorthy, Inc. delivered a financial literacy awareness program to high school students at the Burlington Township High School. Wanda P. Hardy, President of Creditworthy, Inc. talked to the students about budgeting, saving accounts, and money management. Students asked many detailed questions about savings and credit”, said Ms. Hardy. “We are thankful that CreditWorthy, was able to make a presentation to our high school students. We look forward to continuing to work with Creditworthy, Inc. to deliver financial a financial education program to our students. Personal money management skills are extremely important during these financial times. BTHS has offered a personal finance course for many years. We believe every high school student should have a basic financial education. We thank CreditWorthy for reinforcing our objectives.”

Money Smart partners also reach young people through hosting train-the-trainer workshops for other educators who will deliver MSYA in the communities they serve. For example, CreditWorthy, based in Deptford, New Jersey, has trained educators from more than 50 organizations ranging from social service agencies to employees of Susquehanna Bancshares, based in Camden, New Jersey.

Balance Your Check Book and avoid Bank Overdraft Fees

What fees will you be charged if the bank pays your overdraft? The following are standard overdraft practices:

You may be charged a fee of up to $36 each time the bank pays an overdraft with a limit of 4 charges per day.
Also, a $7 fee my be assessed each day your account remains overdrawn for a period of 5 or more consecutive calendar days, up to a maximum of $98. This charge is in addition to any Overdraft Item Fees or Returned Item Fees assessed to your account.
